What Is a Boho Wedding Dress?
"Boho" gets attached to almost every relaxed bridal gown on the internet, which makes it a hard thing to actually shop for. Here is what the word means in a workroom — the five details that decide whether a dress reads bohemian or just informal.
The Five Signatures of a Boho Gown
1. A Silhouette That Moves
A-line, sheath or soft godet — never structured or corseted. If the skirt cannot catch wind, it is not boho.
2. Texture Over Shine
Corded French lace, cotton-blend lace, chiffon and soft tulle. Boho avoids satin, mikado and heavy beading.
3. An Open or Low Back
Deep V, keyhole, or lace straps crossing bare skin. The back is usually where a boho gown does its talking.
4. Sleeves With Air in Them
Bell, flutter, bishop or fitted lace. Sleeves are a boho signature rather than a seasonal afterthought.
5. Handmade Irregularity
Scalloped hems, unlined lace edges, a visible lace repeat. Boho reads handmade, not machine-perfect.

Which Silhouette Suits Your Venue

Why Boho Gowns Are Harder to Buy Off the Rack
A structured gown hides fit problems — boning holds the shape whether or not it matches your body. A boho gown has nothing to hide behind. The lace sits directly on the shoulder, the back is open, the fabric skims rather than compresses. When a boho dress is a size off, it reads immediately.
