How to Measure Yourself for a Custom Wedding Dress

Five body measurements, plus your heel height.
That is the whole thing. We walk you through each one, and Shany reads every set personally before production begins.

You'll need

  • A soft, flexible measuring tape. Not a metal one.
  • Someone to help. Measuring yourself is where most errors come from.
  • The underwear and the shoes you will actually wear on the day.
  • Somewhere to write them down.

The five body measurements

1. Bust

Around the fullest part of your bust, tape parallel to the floor.
Breathe normally. Do not hold it in or push out.

2. Waist

Bend to one side — the crease that forms is your natural waist.
Measure around that point with the tape comfortably loose.

3. Hips

Feet together.
Around the fullest part of your hips and bottom, usually 7–9 inches below the waist.

4. Height

Barefoot, back against a wall, floor to the top of your head.

5. Hollow to hem

The one that matters most.
From the hollow of your collarbone — the soft dip at the base of your throat — down to where you want the dress to end, wearing your wedding shoes.
Walk in the shoes first. Standing still gives you a different number than walking does.

And one more

Heel height

The exact height of the shoes you will wear. It sets the hem, and it is the single most common reason a hem drags or hovers.

Before you send them

Inches or centimetres, either is fine — just be consistent and label which.
Measure twice. Then once more.
If you land between two numbers, send the larger one. We can take a gown in. We cannot let it out.

What happens next

  1. Within 24 hours: Shany reads your measurements herself.
  2. If a number looks off against the others: we WhatsApp or email you before cutting anything.
  3. Production begins: your fabric is cut to your numbers.
  4. It ships: DHL or UPS Express, tracked and insured.

Questions

What if my measurements change before the wedding?

Small changes, within an inch or two, can usually be accommodated up to four weeks before production ends. Tell us as soon as you notice.

Can I send centimetres?

Yes. Just label them clearly. We work in both.

What if I am pregnant, or expecting my weight to change?

Say so. We can build in some flexibility, or time your final measurements closer to the date.
