A second wedding often looks different from a first one. It may be smaller and more personal, at home or in a restaurant, with children or grandchildren in the front row. The dress question changes too. You are not choosing what a bride is supposed to wear. You are choosing what you want to wear.
This guide covers whether to wear white, how formal to go, and which styles feel grown up, romantic and comfortable.
Can you wear white for a second wedding?
Yes. There is no rule against it. If bright white does not feel like you, ivory is the natural choice. It is softer and warmer, and it flatters most skin tones. Ivory lace over a nude lining is warmer still.
How formal should a second wedding dress be?
Match the dress to the wedding you are actually planning:
- For a courthouse ceremony or a small dinner, a light lace gown without a train. Our courthouse wedding dress guide has more ideas.
- For a garden or outdoor celebration, lace and chiffon that move when you walk and stay comfortable all day.
- For a full wedding with a party, a floor-length bridal gown, with or without a veil.
If you are celebrating years together rather than a new marriage, our vow renewal dress guide may help too.

Styles that work well for a second wedding
Long lace sleeves. Long or elbow-length sleeves in French lace feel elegant and give coverage without looking heavy. See the Ingrid Gown or the Liora Gown.

Short lace sleeves. A softer option for warm weather. The Lucia Gown and the Grace Gown are good examples.
A simple lace silhouette. Clean lines, one fabric, one detail. Our simple wedding dress guide explains how to keep it bridal.
A V neckline with a soft A-line skirt. This shape flatters most figures, sits comfortably and moves well. The Lyra Gown pairs a deep V with an open back, and the Daria Gown adds long sleeves.

A dress for the body you have today
Bridal shops usually carry each dress in one sample size, so you try it on and imagine the rest. A Custom Made gown skips that step. Every gown we make can be cut to your own measurements, and Shany checks every set before anything is cut.
You can also change details: raise a neckline, add sleeves, close a back or choose a more opaque lining. Our measuring guide shows how to take your measurements at home.
How long does it take to order?
Most of our gowns take 5-6 weeks to make, followed by DHL or UPS Express delivery in 3-5 business days. If your date is close, contact Shany before you order. Rush production is sometimes possible for an additional fee.
Frequently asked questions
Can I wear white for my second wedding?
Yes. There is no rule against it. Ivory is a good choice if you want something softer than bright white, and it flatters most skin tones.
Should a second wedding dress be less formal?
Only if you want it to be. Match the dress to the wedding you are planning: a small dinner suits a light lace gown, while a full celebration can have a full bridal gown.
What style suits an older bride?
Any style you feel good in. Lace sleeves, a V neckline and a soft A-line skirt are good places to start, with a lining that gives the coverage you want.
Can a second wedding dress be Custom Made?
Yes. Every gown we make is available Custom Made, so the dress is cut for the body you have today instead of altered from a sample size.
