Being pregnant on your wedding day changes how you choose the dress. Your body will not be the same shape when you order, when the gown is cut and when you walk down the aisle. This guide covers what has worked for the pregnant brides we have sewn for, which shapes leave room for a bump, and how to time your measurements.
The short answer: yes, you can order a boho wedding dress online while pregnant, and several of our brides have. Choose a shape that does not depend on a fitted waist, such as an A-line or a soft skirt that falls from just under the bust. Write to Shany before you order with your due date and how many weeks pregnant you will be on the day. She plans the fit with you and may ask for extra measurements, as she did for Katelynn. Allow five to six weeks for sewing and three to seven business days for express shipping. Shipping to the US is free, with import duties paid.
Every gown at Lace & Love is sewn by hand to order in our studio near Tel Aviv, in a standard size or made to your measurements.
What our pregnant brides wore
These are four brides who were pregnant on their wedding day, in their own words from their Etsy reviews.
- Emily, the Diana gown. "I also wore this dress at 32 weeks pregnant and there was plenty of room for my growing bump!"
- Katelynn, the Long Sleeve Classic French Lace dress. "Since I was pregnant Shany made sure to ask for additional measurements, which I loved because it showed she wanted it to fit well." Her only alteration after delivery was a shorter sleeve.
- Sam, the Short Sleeve Boho French Lace dress. "I am pregnant and required some customizations to ensure the dress would fit me, and she was so sweet and helpful! The dress arrived exactly on time."
- Jayde, the Open Back Boho Lace dress. "Shany worked with me to make sure my dress was sent on time and fit my body perfectly even being pregnant."

Shapes that leave room for a bump
A-line. The skirt widens gradually from the waist or just above it, so it does not cling to the belly. It suits most stages of pregnancy.
A waist just under the bust. When the seam sits above the bump, the skirt can fall over it. Ask Shany whether the waist of the gown you like can be raised.
A soft skirt. Chiffon and a few layers of soft tulle move with you and do not press. Compare the lining and layers of the actual gown, since they change how warm it feels.

Sleeves and coverage. Pregnancy can change the bust and shoulders too. Sleeve length, neckline depth and back coverage can be adjusted before cutting, so mention them when you write.

Shapes built around a tightly fitted waist or hips are harder to time, because the fit has to match a body that is still changing.
When to order and when to measure
The closer your measurements are to the wedding day, the closer the fit. The sewing time sets the limit, so plan backwards from your date.
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| 10 weeks or more before the wedding | Choose the gown and write to Shany with your due date and how many weeks pregnant you will be on the day |
| On the date you agree with Shany | Send your measurements. She checks every set before cutting and asks for more if she needs them |
| Five to six weeks | Your gown is cut and sewn by hand |
| Three to seven business days | Express delivery by DHL or UPS, tracked. Free to the US, with import duties paid |
| The last week | Try it on. The gowns have normal seam allowances, so a local seamstress can make small adjustments if you need them |
If your wedding is less than ten weeks away, write to Shany before you order and ask what is possible for your date.
What to tell Shany when you order
- Your due date and how many weeks pregnant you will be on the wedding day
- Your measurements today, and how much they have changed in the last month
- Where you want the waist to sit: above the bump or around it
- The shoes you will wear, because the hem length is measured in your wedding shoes. If you plan to wear flats, measure in them
- Any change you want to the sleeves, neckline, back coverage or lining colour
- How long you will be standing, sitting and dancing
Our measurement guide shows how to take the five standard measurements at home: bust, waist, hips, height, and hollow to hem.
Standard size or made to measure?
Both are possible. A standard size, XS to XL, can come back within 7 days of delivery (14 days in the EU). A made-to-measure gown is final sale once cutting starts, because it is sewn for one body. If your measurements are between sizes or still changing quickly, write to Shany first and ask which option suits your dates. The full terms are on our returns page.
Questions
Can I order a wedding dress online while pregnant?
Yes. Several of our brides were pregnant on their wedding day, including Emily at 32 weeks. Tell Shany your due date and how many weeks pregnant you will be on the day before you order, so she can plan the fit with you.
When should I send my measurements?
As close to the wedding as the sewing time allows. Sewing takes five to six weeks and delivery three to seven business days, so agree the exact date with Shany when you order.
What if my bump grows more than expected?
Try the gown on as soon as it arrives. The gowns have normal seam allowances, so a local seamstress can make small adjustments. For larger changes, tell Shany early how fast your measurements are changing so she can plan for it.
Which wedding dress shape is most comfortable when pregnant?
An A-line or a soft skirt that falls from just under the bust usually feels the most comfortable, because nothing presses on the bump. Chiffon and soft tulle skirts move with you.
How long does it take?
Five to six weeks to sew, then three to seven business days by express courier. Shipping to the US is free, with import duties paid. Order at least ten weeks before the wedding.
